Michelle’s Story: In Control After Divorce and Pursuing Exciting Career Ideas

The Challenge – I recently went through a very difficult divorce after almost 30 years of marriage and was feeling a bit lost.  My children were grown with their own families.  I needed to re-enter the workforce but had no clue where to start.

After 30 years of marriage, my husband asked me for a divorce.  This was certainly not how I had planned for my life to turn out and quite frankly, I was feeling a bit lost.  My children were grown with their own families.  I needed to re-enter the workforce but had no clue where to start.

Lisa helped me think through my employment options via a personality and career placement assessment.  The exercise helped me to identify some of the skills I didn’t even know I had.  Here’s the coaching approach she mapped out for me:

  • Weekly coaching sessions – we spent most of the time discussing all of the career options I had available to me.  Since I was a former teacher, Lisa helped me understand how my skills could apply to various jobs.  She even helped me build a resume.
  • Reading and homework suggestions – Lisa is very well-read and made several book and workbook recommendations that I spent time working through on my own.
  • Additional classes – Lisa suggested a couple of classes I could take at a local community college just to refresh my computer skills.

The results?  I’m more than a wife (or a former wife) and a mother.  I now realize that I have a great deal to offer in the world.  I don’t need someone to take care of me – it’s time to focus on ME !

Lisa helped me to become aware of my skills and gain self-confidence.  I am still a work-in-progress but with Lisa’s knowledge and experience in the corporate world, I have become excited about the opportunities that are ahead of me.

Jill’s Story: Revitalizing Her Dreams is Invigorating

The Challenge – I am bored with my life!

My kids are grown and have left home – my husband has a job that he really enjoys, and most of my friends seem so wrapped up in their grandchildren.  While I adore my grandchildren, I don’t want my life to revolve around them.  I needed a jump-start!

When I engaged Lisa, we spent a lot of time discussing what was going on in my life – and the opportunity to view my life through a different lens so that I could appreciate all of the wonderful things I had in my life and get energized about new opportunities.   Here’s the plan she mapped out for me:

  • Regular sessions – focused on changing my perspective, setting daily intentions and thinking about my dreams.
  • Started journaling – Each day, I write three different things for which I’m thankful.  In addition, I started tracking how I spent my time each day.  Through my journaling, I came to realize that my time was spent running errands and and engaging in activities that others enjoyed, but I didn’t.
  • Set dream goals – Lisa challenged me to craft three goals for the next chapter of my life.  This wasn’t an easy task, but Lisa coached me through it – changing my through process and my self-talk.

The results?  I now spend time each day reading, learning and doing things that pique my interest to help me with my dream goals.  I have continued journaling and setting daily intentions.  I even joined a meet-up group in my city with other women that love to cook.  One of my dream goals is to write a cook book and this group has provided an opportunity for me to share my original recipes.

Lisa’s coaching and encouragement and enabled me to get excited about how I spend each day.  I know longer feel like I’m just sitting on the sidelines – I feel like I’m an active participant in life!

Katherines Story: Reclaiming Balance in Life

The Challenge – Guilt over working too much.

I’ve always been a worker bee, and I’ve used that mindset to help me grow in my career. However, the long hours I spent at my job made me feel like I was losing out on quality time with my husband and two small children. I also noticed how I put my career before important areas of life like my own health.

After receiving a huge promotion at work, I reached out to Lisa to find a better way to balance everything in my life in a more meaningful and intentional way. Lisa took my goal and broke it down into weekly High Performance Coaching sessions that made it feel more achievable:

  • Clarity – Lisa helped me sort through the different ways I felt life was pulling me. While I valued my promotion, I realized being a good mother and wife was more fulfilling.
  • Energy – We worked through exercises that showed me work was draining most of my energy. Without knowing how to refuel my tank, I only had enough energy to spend a little time with my kids before bedtime. I also lacked energy in making healthy choices and getting enough sleep, which held me back even more.
  • Courage – My biggest breakthrough came in our sessions on courage. I saw how I was not exercising courage at my job because I felt more valuable to my company by simply keeping my head down and doing more work people asked of me. Why was I sacrificing time with my family just to make other people happy?

The results? A better work/life balance that shows my family how much focus I truly wanted to give them.

Lisa’s encouragement also helped me find my voice at work in telling people no and setting healthy boundaries. Learning how to speak my mind without feeling guilty at work gave me the courage to speak up and make change in other areas of my life Lisa showed me I had been neglecting too.
